How do I purchase a gun online? [top]
Purchasing a gun online is simple.
Firearms may only be shipped to a licensed dealer (FFL Holder). Some items may not be legal in your state. Read below for instructions on how to complete your purchase within the law.
You do not have to be a licensed dealer to buy a firearm. If you are not a licensed dealer (also called an FFL holder), you must make arrangements with an FFL holder in your area to receive the item and transfer it to you. Anyone who is involved in the sale or distribution of firearms is an FFL holder, including gun shops, gun ranges, gunsmiths, etc.
We strongly recommend that you contact your local FFL holder before purchasing. By doing this, you can verify that all county, state and federal laws will be observed. You also must be able to pass a background check.
Can I have a gun shipped to you that I buy on Gunbroker? [top]
Yes. Our FFL is on file with Gunbroker as well as many dealers. You would need to contact us with the name and phone number of the dealer shipping the gun. We would contact that dealer and make the arrangements for shipping your gun to us. When we receive the gun we would contact you. You would then come into our shop, fill out the required paperwork, and upon passing a background check take possession of your gun.
How much is the transfer fee for having a gun transferred from out of the area? [top]
We charge $15.
What is the procedure for transferring a handgun to another person? [top]
If you both live in this area both of you would come into our shop together. We would need a Indiana drivers or a IN state ID card license for each of you. The handgun would be transferred into our system. The buyer fills out a 4473 and an Application/Record of Sale. The seller signs the bottom of the Application Record of Sale. A background check is done on the buyer. If the buyer passes he pays a $25 transfer fee and takes possession of the handgun.
What payment methods do you accept? [top]
We accept COD, Money Order, Certified Check, PayPal and PayPal Accepts Credit Cards. There will be an additional 3% charge for credit card orders.
It is your responsibility to make sure that you comply with the laws of your city, county and state. If you are unsure of the regulations regarding purchasing a gun in your state, please consult the NRA’s Federal and State Firearm Laws. The ATF has also compiled a listing of State Laws and Published Ordinances for Firearms.
If you are not an FFL Holder, follow these steps:
- Contact someone in your area who has a Federal Firearms License (FFL) and let them know that you would like to transfer a firearm from O'Fishel GunWorks. Most FFL holders will transfer your firearms for a small fee.
- The FFL holder will email, fax or mail a signed copy of their license to us.
- The FFL must be a signed copy, and must have the customer's full name printed on it. They can fax it to us at (812) 879-4928, email it to us at jim@ofishelgunworks.com or mail it to us at:
- O'Fishel GunWorks
9405 Smith Road
Gosport, IN 47433
- Upon receipt of the FFL your item will be shipped to the FFL holder.
- Your FFL holder will run a background check and transfer the firearm to you. Please consult your FFL regarding state and local regulations.
We may already have an FFL on file for someone in your area, in which case your firearm will ship in one or two business days.
For over the counter sales we accept money orders, certified bank checks, personal checks, and of course cash. For phone or internet orders payment must be by credit card or Pay Pal with an additional 3% charge for this service.
Is there a warranty on the guns you sell? [top]
New guns are warranted by the manufacturer. New Guns purchased through our Davidson's wholesaler have a lifetime Replacement Guarantee. If you discover a problem it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to either repair or replace the defective gun. Each manufacturer has a return policy. It is listed in the instruction manual that comes with each gun and on their respective web sites. Used guns are sold as is and therefore have no warranty.
Do you charge a fee for shipping weapons and other merchandise? [top]
Yes. We charge the actual cost of shipping, packaging supplies, including insurance, plus a small handling fee.
What type of gun do you recommend for home defense? [top]
In our opinion the best weapon for home defense is a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with either 6 shot or higher. You have to remember that a loved one could be on the other side of the wall. Low or managed recoil ammo is also recommended.
Do you take guns in on trade? [top]
Yes we do. We need to have the gun in front of us to evaluate its condition. Then we base our offer on the Blue Book Of Gun Values and local going prices. Please do not be offended by our offer because we will resale the firearm at as low a cost as possible. If you trade a gun in as a deposit on another gun, the traded gun becomes the property of O'Fishel GunWorks LLC. If you cancell the transaction you will be reimbursed the value of the traded gun minus the $25 restocking fee.
Do you mount scopes? [top]
Yes. If you buy the gun and or scope from O'Fishel Gunworks LLC, we will mount the scope and bore sight it for free. The only cost would be the price of the rings and bases if needed. If you didn’t buy the gun or scope from us we charge $25 to mount and bore sight the scope.
If you don't have a gun or scope I want in stock will you special order it for me? [top]
Yes we do special orders for most guns and scopes. We deal directly with many manufacturers. We also have contact with six wholesalers. If a gun has been discontinued we can try to find one through our normal distribution channels but we will not try to buy one through an online auction.
